Islamabad, Jan 17: The “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” initiative, launched by the Chief Minister of Punjab, is a groundbreaking housing program aimed at providing 100,000 affordable homes to eligible residents across the province. Designed to uplift low-income families, the program seeks to address housing shortages, improve living conditions, and promote socio-economic growth within four and a half years.

Key Features of the Program

The initiative will be executed through three distinct models, ensuring diverse opportunities for homeownership.

1. State Land Development Model

  • Objective: Build 10,000 housing units on government-owned land.
  • Execution: Developers, in partnership with the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA), will manage infrastructure and construction. PHATA will oversee adherence to quality standards.
  • Financial Plan: Developers cover construction costs; the government sets housing prices and payment plans.

2. Affordable Private Housing Schemes

  • Objective: Collaborate with private developers to construct 20,000 low-cost homes within approved private housing schemes.
  • Process: Developers must allocate 20% of residential space for low-income families, complying with APHS Rules 2020. A streamlined, one-window approval system is in place.
  • Payments: Allottees contribute a down payment into an escrow account, followed by installments over five years, with PHATA supervising construction.

3. Interest-Free Loans for Home Construction

  • Objective: Enable individuals to construct homes on plots they already own.
  • Eligibility: Residents of Punjab with plots up to 5 Marlas in urban or 10 Marlas in rural areas.
  • Loan Details: Up to PKR 1.5 million, repayable over seven years in easy installments, with operational costs covered by the government.
