Islamabad, Oct 3: The Punjab government has officially launched the ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ program, distributing cheques to eligible families to help them build their own homes.

This initiative aims to assist low-income individuals in constructing houses, with a focus on both rural and urban areas.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz were the chief guests at the cheque distribution ceremony.

Maryam Nawaz highlighted that the program Apni Chhat Apna Ghar fulfills Nawaz Sharif’s vision of enabling the underprivileged to own homes.

She mentioned that around 500,000 applications were received for the program, which offers interest-free loans up to PKR 1.5 million.

These loans are repayable in monthly installments of PKR 14,000 over nine years.

The scheme will enable 100,000 families each year to construct homes. Rural beneficiaries can build houses up to 10 marlas, while urban areas are limited to 5 marlas.

Additionally, major cities will see the construction of four-story flats on government land, allocated through a lottery system, and private housing schemes will offer homes with a government subsidy of up to PKR 1 million per house.

The Apni Chhat Apna Ghar project focuses on making homeownership a reality for people who otherwise cannot afford it. With the rising cost of living and skyrocketing property prices, the initiative offers a much-needed financial boost.
