Islamabad, 25 March 2025: A court in Bangladesh has ordered the confiscation of assets of Shakib Al Hasan, adding to his legal challenges linked to the former leader.

Shakib, a former lawmaker associated with Awami League, has been under scrutiny since the leader was ousted in a student-led uprising last year.

The former Prime Minister later fled to India via helicopter following the unrest across the country.

Due to his political ties, the renowned cricketer has faced public outrage, and his name has surfaced in multiple investigations.

Authorities have linked him to a violent police crackdown on protesters during the uprising, though he has not been formally charged in that case.

However, he is currently facing prosecution over allegations of financial misconduct, including bounced cheques worth over $300,000.

A magistrate in Dhaka issued the asset seizure order on Monday, following an arrest warrant issued against him in January.

At the time of Hasina’s government collapse, Shakib was playing in a Twenty20 league in Canada and has not returned to Bangladesh since.

Shakib has been a key figure in the national team, having played 71 Tests, 247 One-Day Internationals, and 129 Twenty20 matches, with a total of 712 wickets to his name.

The current legal situation of the cricketer has cast doubt over his future in international cricket. It remains unclear whether he will return to Bangladesh to face the charges.
