Islamabad, Oct 29: The British High Commission in Pakistan has announced the launch of a new Chevening Mentorship Scheme to connect alumni who are actively working in the climate sector, with young climate leaders across Pakistan.
23 early and mid-career climate professionals were selected out of 400 applicants in a competitive process. Over three months, 11 dedicated Chevening alumni who are experts in climate will mentor them through a structured plan of meetings, workshops, and one-on-one sessions. Participants will gain skills in leadership, climate advocacy, and professional development.
Development Director at the British High Commission, Jo Moir, said:
“Chevening is all about making a difference and giving back.
Climate change is one of the most acute challenges that Pakistan faces. Young people, understand this and are finding the path towards a more climate resilient Pakistan.
Our fantastic alumni will give these climate leaders of the future the ideas, knowledge and skills they need to do this.”
Senior Joint Secretary Ministry of Water Resources and climate mentor, Syed Mujtaba Hussain, said:
“I am proud to be part of this incredible programme, and I look forward to sharing my experiences with emerging climate leaders.
Mentorship is a powerful tool, and I am keen to help guide the next generation as they develop their own paths and solutions to combat climate change.
This is an opportunity for me to give back what I learned as part of the Chevening cohort in 2002-2003 and to help shape a more sustainable future for Pakistan.”
Chevening Pakistan are also conducting climate debates with Chevening alumni, focusing on pressing issues that Pakistan is facing and offering practical solutions.
They have run a debate in Karachi focussed on green growth, and one in Lahore focussed on urbanisation.

Applications for the prestigious Chevening Scholarship are currently open until 5 November 2024. This fully funded scholarship offers Pakistani mid-career professionals the opportunity to pursue a one-year master’s degree in the United Kingdom.
This year, the University of Essex are sponsoring two additional scholarships to study with them, one on climate studies and one on heritage studies.
The Mansion House Scholarship Scheme are funding one additional place for Pakistani students pursuing a masters in the financial sector, or associated subjects.
The Mansion House scholar will access unique networking opportunities, and a mentor to provide career guidance.
The University of Birmingham and University of Greenwich are also sponsoring additional Chevening places, and they particularly welcome applicants from Pakistan.
