Islamabad, Jan 9: Sher Shah Khan, founder of Skillistan a platform dedicated to empowering youth through green skills and sustainability emphasized the critical need to engage young people in combating climate change.Reflecting on his transition from the oil and gas industry to advocating for a sustainable future, Khan highlighted the importance of creating platforms that equip youth with essential skills to address climate challenges.
He noted that while youth constitute a significant portion of the population, they are often marginalized in decision-making processes. Initiatives like the Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) Pakistan provide opportunities for young individuals to actively participate and voice their concerns.
Khan also discussed the challenges of organizing climate events in Pakistan, particularly due to security concerns that hinder international participation. Despite these obstacles, he remains optimistic about uniting global youth for networking, learning, and capacity building, emphasizing the need to improve security to facilitate such events.
Reflecting on his entrepreneurial journey, Khan acknowledged the risks and challenges inherent in the social impact sector, stating that entrepreneurship requires resilience and a willingness to confront difficulties head-on.
He encouraged youth to pursue their passions, remain open to collaboration, and focus on developing green skills, as the world transitions towards sustainability. Khan’s work at Skillistan and his involvement in international platforms like COP29 underscore his commitment to youth empowerment, sustainability, and bridging the gap between Pakistan and the global community in addressing climate change.
