Islamabad – May 3, 2025: The Central Asia Volleyball Association (CAVA) has has shifted the Nations League from Pakistan to Uzbekistan.

The shift comes amid rising security concerns linked to the growing tensions between Pakistan and India.

Originally set to take place in Islamabad from 29 May to 4 June, the tournament will now go ahead on the same dates in Uzbekistan.

The decision was made at CAVA’s April 25 meeting in Nepal after members raised concerns about Pakistan’s security situation.

CAVA officials said that multiple participating countries had expressed concerns following recent diplomatic strains between India and Pakistan.

As a result, organisers concluded that moving the tournament would be the most prudent course of action.

A CAVA representative confirmed the decision, adding that while the venue had changed, the competition format and schedule would remain the same.

Teams from Pakistan, India, Iran, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan are expected to compete in the tournament.

Ch Mohammad Yaqub of the Pakistan Volleyball Federation acknowledged the development, noting that some countries had opted out of participating in Islamabad due to safety concerns.

Despite disappointment in Pakistan, CAVA assured the tournament will go ahead as planned and remain a key platform for regional volleyball.

The relocation is seen by some as a necessary measure to safeguard athletes and officials, while others view it as a missed opportunity for Pakistan to demonstrate its capacity to host international events.

The country has made recent efforts to attract global sporting events as part of a broader push to improve its image on the world stage.
