Cement dealers have initiated a statewide indefinite strike in response to the tax increases, which include an increase in Federal Excise Duty from PKR 2 to PKR 4 per kilogram. A presumptive tax system is something that the All Pakistan Cement Dealers Association is pushing for in order to stop job losses and business closures. Furthermore, dealers are finding it difficult to comply with new legal requirements, such as the need for Point of Sale (PoS) devices, which many cannot afford.
