Islamabad, Jan 7: Dense fog blanketed several regions of Punjab, prompting the closure of multiple motorways to ensure the safety of travelers. As of early Tuesday morning, the Motorway M-2 (Lahore to Kot Momin), M-3 (Lahore to Abdul Hakeem), M-4 (Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad), and M-11 (Lahore to Sialkot) were all shut to traffic. This precautionary measure was taken in response to the heavy fog that severely reduced visibility on major highways.

Motorway Police spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmad explained that the thick fog had spread across key areas, including Thokar Niaz Baig, Pattoki, Okara, and Sahiwal. The decision to close these motorways was made to prevent accidents, as reduced visibility increases the likelihood of lane violations and collisions.

Authorities have urged travelers to avoid traveling during the early morning hours when visibility is at its lowest. Ahmad recommended that drivers plan their journeys between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., when fog tends to lift and visibility improves. He also advised drivers to use their vehicle’s front and rear lights and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.

The Motorway Police are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared to assist drivers who require guidance or assistance during their travels. Motorists in need of help can contact the Motorway Police helpline at 130 for support and updates on road conditions. As conditions remain unpredictable, drivers are urged to exercise caution and stay informed about road closures to ensure a safe journey during foggy weather.
