Islamabad, Sep 17: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar on Tuesday stressed the importance of reforming Pakistan’s education system through a comprehensive approach that emphasizes character development, technological advancement, spiritual growth, and capacity building.
Speaking at the Seeratun Nabi (PBUH) Conference in connection with Eid Miladun Nabi, the deputy prime minister highlighted that education should not be solely focused on material success, but also on fostering spiritual well-being and enhancing individuals’ abilities to contribute positively to society.
Organized by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, the conference titled “State Education System in Light of the Teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH)” was attended by Religious Affairs Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain, along with hundreds of scholars from various schools of thought, diplomats, authors, and researchers.
Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar acknowledged the challenges facing Pakistan’s education system and recommended that the Religious Affairs Ministry collaborate with the Ministry of Education to undertake reforms, guided by Islamic teachings and input from religious scholars.
Emphasizing the importance of education in Islam, he referenced the first Quranic verse, “Read, in the Name of your Lord Who created,” and highlighted several ahadith of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), stressing that education benefits humanity by helping distinguish between good and evil. He underscored that Islam mandates the pursuit of knowledge for all, with the state responsible for providing resources.
During the event, the deputy prime minister distributed awards to authors for their outstanding works on the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), including books, anthologies of Naats, and writings relevant to the conference theme.
