Islamabad, 26 Apr, 2025: The Directorate General of Customs Valuation in Karachi has officially released new customs values for the import of 187 different Apple iPhone models, including the newly introduced iPhone 16 series.

A new Valuation Ruling, numbered 1909 of 2025, was issued on Friday to formalise the updated rates. The decision is part of ongoing efforts to better align customs duties with current global market prices.

Updated Models and Depreciation Details

The fresh ruling covers customs values for 16 variants of the latest iPhone 16, alongside previous models like the iPhone 15, iPhone 14, iPhone 13, iPhone 12, and iPhone 11.

Officials have also confirmed that depreciation benefits will apply to older models that are now considered outdated or have reached their End of Life (EOL) status.

According to authorities, the revision became necessary after receiving formal requests from the Collectorate of Customs (Airport), Islamabad, and multiple appeals from importers and other stakeholders seeking updates to the old valuation framework.

Need for a Revised Valuation

It was noted that the existing customs valuation, issued over a year ago, no longer reflected prevailing international prices.

Outdated references and the arrival of the iPhone 16 series made an immediate update crucial.

Officials stated that an exercise was launched to reassess import values, under Sections 25 and 25A of the Customs Act, 1969, to maintain transparency and accuracy.

Process of Determining New Customs Values

Several consultation meetings were held with stakeholders to ensure fair input. During these sessions, stakeholders urged the inclusion of the iPhone 16 series and requested the depreciation of older models. They were also asked to submit import documentation to support their claims.

Authorities then conducted an in-depth analysis by reviewing 90 days’ worth of import data and declared values.
