Islamabad & Global: YouTube marked its 20th anniversary this April, celebrating two decades since co-founder Jawed Karim uploaded the platform’s very first video, Me at the Zoo, in 2005.

What began as a simple video-sharing website has since transformed into a global media powerhouse that reshapes entertainment, music, and digital culture on a massive scale.

Now engaged with Google, YouTube commemorated the milestone by sharing striking statistics that underscore its continued dominance in the digital space.

The platform revealed that over 20 million videos are uploaded each day, with users posting an average of 100 million comments daily throughout 2024.

Creator engagement has also surged, with creators using the “heart” feature to interact with comments from around 10 million users every day.

The platform’s reach and popularity were further reflected in the sheer volume of engagement: in 2023 alone, YouTube videos amassed over 3.5 billion likes per day.

Meanwhile, more than 300 music videos have now surpassed the billion-views milestone, reinforcing YouTube’s central role in shaping global music consumption.

Youtube Music & Kids

The anniversary also marked 10 years of YouTube Music and YouTube Kids — two key extensions of the platform tailored to specific user experiences.

Notably, YouTube Music was initially developed under the codename “Woodstock” before its official launch, pointing to the platform’s long-standing vision for a diverse multimedia ecosystem.

Looking forward, YouTube announced plans to expand the integration of AI-driven features across its suite of services.

The company also reaffirmed its commitment to growing its Premium subscription model, emphasizing that the revenue from Premium helps sustain and reward creators worldwide — a key part of its long-term strategy to support the creator economy.
