Islamabad, Mar 11 2025: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, met with United Nations Resident Coordinator Mohammed Yahya on Tuesday to discuss key Economic Growth and Development challenges facing Pakistan.

The meeting, held at the Finance Division, also included UNICEF Representative Abdullah Fadil, UN Resident Coordinator Office Head Afke Bootsman. UNFPA Representative Dr. Luay Shabaneh, and senior officials from the Finance Division.

According to an official statement, the meeting focused on crucial topics such as debt management, climate financing, debt restructuring, and Pakistan’s progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Economic Growth and Development .

Special attention was given to the country’s transition to green energy and strategies for achieving long-term economic stability.

During the discussions, Senator Aurangzeb underscored Pakistan’s two most pressing challenges: climate change and rapid population growth.

He emphasized that without addressing these critical issues, economic growth and stability would remain unsustainable.

The Finance Minister stressed the importance of technical assistance from international development partners in formulating and executing investable projects that adhere to global monitoring and reporting standards.

He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to its long-term partnership with the World Bank, particularly in addressing learning poverty and population management both of which are key components of the 10-year Country Partnership Framework between Pakistan and the World Bank.

Providing an update on Pakistan’s economic outlook, Aurangzeb highlighted positive economic indicators and reaffirmed the government’s shift towards an export-driven, productivity-led growth model.

He stressed the need to avoid past economic cycles of boom and bust by fostering inclusive and sustainable economic expansion.

The discussions also explored enhancing climate financing mechanisms and expanding green energy initiatives to ensure Pakistan’s sustainable energy future.

Additionally, the Finance Minister emphasized the necessity of equipping the country’s youth with entrepreneurial skills, enabling them to contribute effectively to Pakistan’s long-term economic development.

He further reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to working alongside development partners, including the United Nations, to accelerate progress toward the SDGs and build a resilient, sustainable future for the nation.
