ISLAMABAD, AUGUST 12: In the forthcoming Test series against Bangladesh, former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali has called for red-ball captain Shan Masood to bat at a different position.
Ali suggested Masood to move up from his current position at number three to the opening spot on all platforms in a recent YouTube video.
Ali, who had earlier advised Masood to shorten his bat, has now emphasized how bad it is for Masood and the Pakistan squad to bat third. He claims that Masood would be more effective as an opening batsman.
At a news conference, Masood discussed his experiences with Yorkshire, particularly his encounter with the Kookaburra ball.
The former cricket player took offense at this comparison and accused Masood of concentrating more on Yorkshire than on problems within the Pakistan team.
Masood’s use of international instances infuriated Ali, who responded, “You are the captain of Pakistan, not Yorkshire.”
“Put emphasis on the skills and abilities of your teammates, like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Abdullah Shafique, Saud Shakeel, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah, rather than comparing yourself to players like Joe Root and Harry Brook.” Basit Ali said.
Masood should concentrate on Pakistan’s home environment and issues, Ali said, rather than making analogies with English cricket because their pitches are very different from those of the subcontinent.
His remarks demonstrated a larger focus for enhancing team cohesiveness and output through direct resolution of regional problems.
