Islamabad, 20 April 2025: Mohsin Naqvi has confirmed that the national women’s cricket team will not travel to India for the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup

Speaking during his visit to the Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) Ground on Saturday, Naqvi reiterated the board’s stance.

PCB Chairman cited the pre-agreed ‘Fusion Formula’—a policy introduced earlier this year in the lead-up to the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy.

Under this formula, teams may play at neutral venues due to political or security concerns.

Naqvi stated that the decision had already been finalised and would not be changed.

When asked about where Pakistan’s matches would be played if not in India, he responded that the choice of neutral venues would be the host’s responsibility, not Pakistan’s.

The statement came as Naqvi met with the Pakistan women’s team following their impressive performance in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier.

The Fatima Sana-led side went unbeaten in the tournament, ending their campaign with five consecutive wins.

After securing qualification with an 87-run victory against Thailand on Thursday, they wrapped up their run by defeating Bangladesh by seven wickets on Saturday.

Naqvi praised the team’s strong unity and spirit, saying their success was a reflection of playing as a cohesive unit.

He assured that the players would be rewarded for their performances, describing the wins as well-earned.

“When a team plays together with harmony and determination, such results are inevitable,” he said.

Pakistan’s qualification and the team’s continued growth mark a high point for women’s cricket in the country.

However, their absence from matches held in India may present challenges for the tournament organisers as they consider alternative arrangements.

The PCB now awaits clarity from the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the venue plan for Pakistan’s matches.
