Islamabad, Sep 3: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency has been established, according to a declaration made by Information Minister Attaullah Tarar in the national legislature.
The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) insufficient ability to handle the growing number of cybercrime events led to the decision.

Tarar promised to provide help until the new cybercrime investigation agency is fully operating during the National Assembly’s Question Hour. He also said that consideration would be given to integrating some FIA staff members into the new organization.

The minister made it clear that active FIA cybercrime cases would not be closed; rather, they would be moved to the new organization. In answer to a query from Sharmila Faruqui regarding the specifics of cybercrimes committed during the previous three years, he made the comment.

An overview of the incidents reported to the cyber wing during that time period was provided by the Interior Ministry. The cybercrime wing verified 80,803 cases and received 115,868 complaints in 2021.

They made 15,766 inquiries, 1,223 FIRs, 38 convictions, and the acquittal of 88 suspects.83,552 of the 136,024 complaints in 2022 were found to be legitimate. Inquiries totaled 14,380, 1,469 FIRs were filed, 48 convictions were made, and 177 suspects were found not guilty. The cybercrime wing verified 82,396 instances and received 134,710 complaints last year. 18,012 inquiries were made, 1,375 FIRs were filed, 92 convictions were obtained, and 102 suspects were found not guilty.
