Islamabad, Mar 12 2025: The federal government is preparing to introduce significant modifications to Pakistan’s Central Superior Services (CSS) examination system, as part of a wider initiative to reform the country’s education and administrative structures.

These updates are expected to come into effect next year, according to Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar.

Addressing the Senate, Tarar pointed out the rising number of students opting for Cambridge education such as O and A Levels and emphasized the need for a fair and standardized testing framework.

He stressed that CSS candidates, regardless of their academic background, should have an equal chance of success in the competitive exams.

A high-level committee, led by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, has been evaluating potential changes to the Central Superior Services (CSS) exam format. With most assessments completed, final recommendations are expected to shape the upcoming reforms.

The CSS examination, widely recognized for its rigorous selection process, has often been criticized for favoring certain educational systems, making it more challenging for others to compete on an equal footing.

The planned reforms aim to eliminate such disparities, ensuring a more inclusive and merit-based recruitment system for Pakistan’s civil services.

While authorities have yet to disclose specific details, officials indicate that a revised examination framework could be finalized in the coming months, with full implementation anticipated by 2026.
