Islamabad, 17 April 2025: Hammad Azam was fined his full match fee for misconduct during a key PCB Grade-II match against Wing Triple Nine Sports, sources said.

The altercation occurred at the State Bank Ground in Karachi when Hammad reacted angrily after being given out by on-field officials.

The all-rounder allegedly confronted umpires Rafiq Ahmed and Abdul Kareem in an aggressive manner and later made inappropriate remarks towards match referee Ali Gohar.

The umpires officially reported the behaviour to the match referee, prompting immediate disciplinary proceedings.

Both Hammad and the Kingsmen’s team manager were summoned for a hearing to explain the captain’s conduct.

However, insiders revealed that the former international continued to behave aggressively during the hearing, which led to further concerns about his conduct.

In response, match referee Ali Gohar took firm action by slapping Hammad Azam with a 100% fine of his match fee, aiming to uphold discipline and set an example for others.

The PCB President’s Trophy Grade-II features matches across eight cities—Abbottabad, Haripur, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sheikhupura, and Swabi.

The tournament offers emerging and domestic players a platform to prove their talent in the red-ball format.

A total of 85 matches will be played, with group-stage matches lasting three days and the final scheduled for four days from May 22 to 25.

Over 400 players are competing for a combined prize pool of PKR 7.75 million, with the champions set to receive PKR 5 million and the runners-up PKR 2.5 million.

The top two teams from each group will move on to the quarter-finals, slated for May 14–16.

The semi-finals are scheduled from May 18–20, with the venues for the knockout matches yet to be announced.

This recent incident has cast a spotlight on player behaviour and the importance of upholding professionalism in domestic cricket.
