Islamabad, Oct 4: Health ministry issues new dengue advisory
Islamabad has experienced a dramatic surge in dengue cases, increasing from 111 to 1,404 between September 9 and October 2.
The Ministry of National Health Services and Regulations has issued an urgent advisory, indicating a heightened risk of dengue transmission due to heavy rainfall and favorable weather conditions.
According to Dr. Zaeem Zia, the District Health Officer (DHO) of Islamabad, most dengue larvae breeding sites are found in homes, construction sites, and public areas.
In response, DHO teams have launched extensive initiatives, including Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) and dengue prevention awareness campaigns.
Preventive Measures Against Dengue
- Wear long sleeves and apply mosquito repellents to prevent bites.
- Limit outdoor activities after sunset and avoid areas with standing water, tall grass, and garbage.
- Seek medical advice rather than self-medicate.
- Contact local monitoring teams to request dengue spraying in your area.
Symptoms of Dengue Fever
Health authorities have urged the public to take necessary precautions and instructed medical facilities to set up dedicated counters for dengue-related cases.
The district administration is actively working to control larvae through various methods.
Dengue fever can lead to a decrease in platelet counts and can be life-threatening if untreated. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention emphasize the need for immediate medical attention if symptoms develop.
