ISLAMABAD, AUGUST 3: Director General Mahr Sahibzad Khan of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) provided the following water levels during a briefing on the state of the country’s reservoirs:

  • Tarbela Dam: 1526.89 feet, with a maximum conservation level of 1550.00 feet.
  • Mangla Dam: 1202.15 feet, with a maximum conservation level of 1242.00 feet.
  • Rawal Dam: 1739.00 feet, with a maximum conservation level of 1752.00 feet.
  • Simly Dam: 2277.5 feet, with a maximum conservation level of 2315.00 feet.
  • Khanpur Dam: 1942.4 feet, with a maximum conservation level of 1982.00 feet.

Khan stated that there is little chance of flooding given the current state of the rainy scenario. But he warned that if the rain keeps coming down the same way, the Chenab River would become severely flooded.

In addition, he stated that another rainy period is anticipated from August 7–15, for which the PMD would issue some advice, after the one that occurred from August 1–6. We are forecast to see above-average rainfall throughout the first two weeks of August.
