Islamabad, Oct 16: HEC Issues Public Warning on Scam Calls and Fake Social Media Pages.The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has warned the public about the rise in fraudulent activity, including phony social media profiles and scam calls that purport to be affiliated with the commission.
The HEC warned the public that certain imposters are using scam calls to get personal information for degree attestation or re-verification of previously attested documents, claiming to be affiliated with the HEC. Under the guise of HEC Attestation Agents, some people are providing degree attestation services and charging exorbitant costs that are significantly higher than the allowed amounts.
The public is also being misled by fake social media pages that advertise unapproved degree verification services. The HEC has made it clear that it does not hire any agents or representatives for the purpose of attestation, nor does it contact people about these services or make unwanted calls.
For any degree-related verifications, the public is advised to use only the HEC attestation portal (eservices.hec.gov.pk) or the official HEC website (www.hec.gov.pk).People are advised not to answer any such calls or invitations and to be wary of anyone or any social media website that purports to offer HEC attestation services.
To block the bogus number, they must report scam calls to their telecom providers’ helplines. They can also file a complaint via the PTA’s website, www.pta.gov.pk, or by calling the toll-free number, 0800-55055. People should get in touch with the State Bank of Pakistan at cpd.helpdesk@sbp.org.pk if they believe there has been financial fraud.
