Islamabad, JULY 31: The playwright Khalilur Rehman Qamar was the victim of a honey trapping gang, and on Tuesday, police detained the group’s purported leader.

Under the condition of anonymity, a top official informed the media that Hassan Shah and his accomplice, Rafiq, had been apprehended in Peshawar and taken to Lahore for further examination.

Amna Arooj was one of the twelve gang members who the police had earlier detained on July 21. On Tuesday, a video tape purportedly featuring Qamar with a lady went viral on social media, dramatically changing the course of the case.

According to a police officer speaking to the media, the inquiry showed that Qamar and the woman were filming “indecent activity” at the time the video was taken. He said that Qamar was being blackmailed by the woman and her allies via the video. The inquiry also showed that Qamar had filed the lawsuit only to get and destroy the video, and that he had been falsifying the account of the robbery and kidnapping.

On Qamar’s accusation, the Sundar Police Station opened a case for robbery and kidnapping.REMAND: Amna Arooj’s physical remand was prolonged by two days by an anti-terrorism court (ATC). After Arooj’s last remand expired, the police brought her before the court and requested an extension.

The investigating officer declared that the ransom money had to be recovered by the police.Arooj responded that it might be with Hassan Shah or Zeeshan, two other suspects in the case, when ATC Judge Khalid Arshad questioned her about knowing about the money. Arooj knew all of the other suspects and had close ties to them, according to Qamar’s attorney. He asserted that his client was a devout individual. The court said, “A pious man usually offers tahajjud (night prayers) at four in the morning,” expressing amazement at the lawyer’s assertion.

Arooj broke down in tears in court, explaining that she was the only provider for her family and that her father was sick. She also mentioned that she had two sisters to look after. She expressed her displeasure at the injustices done to her and her wish to die as a result of her circumstances.

Arooj claimed that she was blackmailed by Hassan Shah, a real estate dealer, as well as by Qamar. She also claimed that Shah, who she considered to be a brother, was aware of Qamar’s extortion. She asserted that she was caught between two powerful men. She further disclosed that Qamar was demanding a relationship with her in a video that Shah had shared. The woman claimed that although she had invited Qamar to her home, Shah had planned the kidnapping, thus she did not actually abduct him.
