Islamabad, Oct 3: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a one-year ban on Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama, which includes a suspension for the final six months.
This decision follows Jayawickrama’s admission of breaching the ICC’s anti-corruption code, with specific charges announced in August.
Jayawickrama acknowledged violations under Article 2.4.7 of the anti-corruption code, which pertains to obstructing or delaying investigations by the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU), including actions like concealing or tampering with relevant documentation.
These breaches are linked to his involvement in international cricket and the Lanka Premier League (LPL).
Making his international debut in April 2021 against Bangladesh, Jayawickrama has shown promise, participating in five Tests, five One Day Internationals (ODIs), and five Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). His last appearance for Sri Lanka was in a T20I series against Australia in 2022.
In domestic cricket, he played for the Jaffna Kings during their LPL 2021 championship win and most recently represented the Dambulla Sixers in the 2024 season.
