Islamabad, Nov 10: Upcoming champions trophy scheduled in Pakistan in 2025 India has said no it will not travel to destination due to security issues.
The BCCI conveyed this decision to the PCB and the latter got to know that the former wished to stage all the games in Dubai only.
This move shows how the two cricketing countries are bitter rivals the issue of security in international sports.
It still remains so even after the latest diplomatic sit-down between Jaishankar and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar.
The recent memorandum at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meet held in Islamabad was the first time of the direct interaction between the nations since 2015, and initially stirred higher expectations for a better cricket relationship.
Yet the BCCI’s decision proposing to play in Dubai shows that it is not easy to eliminate political enmity through the use of diplomacy alone.
The same year’s champions trophy falls between 19th of February and 9th of March involving eight leading cricket playing countries.
Pakistan had earlier intended to organize the event at Karachi Lahore and Rawalpindi.
However, India’s absence to participate in Pakistan have raised more and question marks over the tournament.
It is not the first time India have selected a neutral country to play their games.
India played their Asia Cup games in Sri Lanka in 2023 but against Pakistan.
These Shows that the political problems between India and Pakistan are much deeper
when India decided to play in Dubai despite the two countries close neighborliness.
As talks are still on diplomatic level it is uncertain if the playing relations between India and Pakistan will change.
Champions Trophy 2025
The case relating to 2025 Champions Trophy is a good example of how security and political issues drive the international cricket more essentially in the subcontinent where cricket is not just a sports issue, but rather a cultural one.
However, the future of India Pakistan cricket relation does not seem very bright as the Champions Trophy 2025 is drawing near.
Some chance relies on the continuation of the proceedings in the diplomatic field.
This declined to go to Pakistan for the tournament serves as a reminder of the fact that both nations continue to struggle to solve their cricket related problems.
This development would probably further define the future of cricket diplomacy in the region.
