Islamabad, Feb 10: Jasprit Bumrah’s participation in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy is still uncertain as the deadline for final squad submissions to the ICC looms on February 11. While Bumrah was initially included in India’s 15-man provisional squad for the tournament, his fitness has become a major concern, with his recent back issues keeping him out of the team’s ODI series against England, which is India’s final preparation before the Champions Trophy.
Despite expectations that Bumrah might feature in the third ODI against England, he was sent for further assessments in Bengaluru, with sources indicating that his fitness is still under close evaluation by the BCCI’s medical team. Bumrah, recovering from a stress-related back injury that sidelined him since early January, may not be ready for India’s first match of the Champions Trophy.

If Bumrah is ruled out, India may look to replace him with Harshit Rana, who was called up for the first two ODIs against England. However, there’s also the possibility that India could keep Bumrah in the squad and make a late replacement, subject to approval by the tournament’s technical committee.
India, placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand, will play all their group matches in Dubai, starting with Bangladesh on February 20, followed by the highly anticipated clash with Pakistan on February 23 and New Zealand on March 2.
Bumrah’s absence from the Champions Trophy would be a huge blow to India’s title aspirations, as his pace and experience are pivotal to India’s chances of success. The decision regarding his fitness and inclusion is critical, with the deadline fast approaching.
