Islamabad, Nov 22: An Indian fishing vessel, Marthoma, with 13 crew members onboard, collided with an Indian Navy ship off the Goa coast, officials reported on Friday. The Navy swiftly initiated a large-scale rescue operation, deploying six ships and aircraft to the site.
According to the Navy, 11 crew members have been rescued, while the search for the two missing fishermen is ongoing. A spokesperson stated, “Efforts to locate the two missing crew members are underway in coordination with the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai.”
The rescue mission has been bolstered with additional vessels and aircraft from the Indian Coast Guard. Authorities are working diligently to ensure the safety of the missing crew as investigations into the collision’s cause proceed.
The incident highlights the urgent need for enhanced safety protocols in India’s coastal waters, where fishing and naval activities frequently overlap.
