Islamabad, Oct 26: In a significant healthcare development, free OPD services have been launched for patients in four districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa under the Sehat Insaf Card initiative.
Financially backed by the German aid agency KFW, this project brings free outpatient services to Mardan, Kohat, Malakand, and Chitral.
According to Health Department sources, €4.9 million have been allocated for this pilot, which kicks off in Mardan before expanding to the remaining districts.
The State Life Insurance Corporation has signed an agreement to administer the project, with Health Advisor Ihtesham Ali and Secretary Health Adeel Shah overseeing the process.
The Sehat Insaf Card initially covered IPD (in-patient department) services across KP, following a phased rollout that began with these four districts and eventually reached the whole province.
With KFW’s support, phase two introduces free OPD services for an estimated 120,000 families in the selected districts.
Under the agreement, 90% of the funding is sourced from KFW, with the provincial government contributing 10%.
In each Union Council, one public and one private clinic will provide these services. If successful, the government plans to extend the initiative to more areas of the province.
