Islamabad, Oct 4: Internet and mobile network services have been suspended in multiple cities across Pakistan, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The disruptions come ahead of a planned protest by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) at the well-known D-Chowk in Islamabad.
Reports indicate that internet connectivity has also been affected in Karachi, with users experiencing difficulties accessing social media platforms.
Earlier today, the Punjab government implemented Section 144 in four cities to prohibit political gatherings, protests, and rallies. The cities impacted are Lahore, Rawalpindi, Attock, and Sargodha. To help maintain order, Rangers personnel have been deployed in these areas.
In Lahore, three companies of Rangers have been specifically requested for duty on October 5.
The restrictions under Section 144 will be enforced for three days, from October 4 (today) to October 6, in Rawalpindi, Attock, and Sargodha. This decision was made following recommendations from the district administration.
In a separate development, the Islamabad police have established seven teams tasked with arresting protestors in response to PTI’s call for a demonstration.
Each special police team will consist of 15 to 17 officers and will be led by Superintendents of Police (SPs), with sub-inspector rank officers in charge of each team, targeting local activists and those arriving in Islamabad for today’s PTI protest
