ISLAMABAD, AUGUST 12: The government of the Islamabad Capital Territory has imposed a 10-day prohibition on the sale, purchase, and use of honking toy horns (baaja) in the federal capital, only days before Independence Day.
The prohibition on honking toy horns is in place immediately and will remain for 10 days, according to a notification issued by Usman Ashraf, the Additional District Magistrate for Islamabad. The letter further stated that Section 144 has been used to enforce the restriction.
The warning made clear that the administration is taking action because toy horns sold in the federal capital are interfering with the flow of motor traffic. In addition, Irfan Nawaz, the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, has told stall owners to cease selling toys and asked people not to use toy horns.
Additionally, he gave the assistant commissioners orders to seize any toys that were being sold. The official asked people to heed the instructions and issued a warning that using or selling these toys could have legal repercussions.Prior to Independence Day of last year, a Karachi judicial magistrate’s court issued an injunction against the users and sellers of toy horns. Due to noise complaints, a Lahore High Court appeal in 2022 requested that plastic toy horns and whistles be banned; however, the court rejected the plea.
