Islamabad, Dec 7: Joe Root continues to shine in Test cricket, achieving another remarkable milestone by becoming the first English batter and the fourth overall to record 100 fifty-plus scores in the format. Root reached this feat during his half-century against New Zealand in the second Test in Wellington.
He joins an elite group of cricketers, with Sachin Tendulkar (119), Jacques Kallis (103), and Ricky Ponting (103) being the only others to surpass 100 fifty-plus scores. Root is now the sole active player in this category, with Rahul Dravid just behind at 99 fifty-plus scores.
Widely regarded as England’s greatest-ever batter, Root has amassed over 12,000 Test runs, including 35 centuries and 65 half-centuries. His consistency across the globe is unparalleled, averaging 54.94 in England, 50.94 in New Zealand, 50.21 in South Africa, 45.42 in India, 65.50 in Sri Lanka, and 51.50 in the West Indies.
Root has further highlighted his dominance with his incredible form in recent years, scoring over 1,000 Test runs in three of the last four calendar years.
This cements his status as one of the greatest batters of his era and arguably the best in the world right now.
