Islamabad, 24 April 2025: AC Milan secured a commanding 3-0 victory over city rivals Inter Milan to reach the Coppa Italia final, with Luka Jovic playing a central role in a memorable Derby della Madonnina.

The two sides had entered the second leg on level terms after a 1-1 draw in the opening encounter, but it was Milan who took control at the San Siro thanks to Jovic’s timely return to form.

The Serbian striker, once of Real Madrid, opened the scoring nine minutes before half-time, heading in a precise cross to give Milan the edge on the night and on aggregate.

Shortly after the break, Jovic doubled his tally by reacting swiftly to a corner and flicking the ball into the net from close range.

His recent scoring spree has seen him net four times in his last five appearances, a sharp turnaround after going goalless until March.

Inter pushed forward in search of a response, but Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan made a crucial save to deny Stefan de Vrij.

Any hopes of a late comeback for the Nerazzurri were dashed when Tijjani Reijnders calmly slotted home a third goal late in the match, sealing the result and sending the Rossoneri through to the final.

While Milan’s domestic campaign has fallen below expectations—they sit ninth in Serie A and have already been knocked out of the Champions League—this result keeps their silverware hopes alive.

The Coppa Italia now presents a potential opportunity to salvage what has otherwise been a disappointing season.

The loss also ends Inter’s ambition of completing a treble this year.

Although they remain at the top of the league and are still in the Champions League semi-finals, their hopes of domestic cup success have now been dashed.

In the other semi-final, Bologna hold a 3-0 lead over Empoli ahead of the second leg, scheduled for Thursday.
