The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has said that it will take severe action against any unlawful housing societies that operate in the province. The Finance Secretary, Muzammil Hussain, presided over a recent meeting when a resolution was made to penalize and prohibit housing societies operating without a No Objection Certificate (NOC).

The major threat that unauthorized housing societies represent to agricultural land and food security was underlined by Secretary Hussain. The fact that these unapproved projects exacerbate a number of environmental problems emphasizes the necessity of taking strict measures.

In a related incident, the public is being advised by the Rawalpindi incident Authority (RDA) to abstain from investing in unlicensed housing societies. A representative for the RDA disclosed that the organization has stepped up its continuous enforcement of illegal housing schemes.

According to the RDA spokesman, four unregistered societies—Capital Valley, New Airport Town, Banni Mehbob, and Gulshan-e-Bahar located in Mouzas Katrian, Thalian, and Pilo, Rawalpindi were recently the focus of the Task Force, which was formed to tackle illegal housing schemes.

Furthermore, cooperative housing societies that are utilizing the Water and Power Development Authority’s (WAPDA) name illegally are facing legal action from the government. To address this malpractice, WAPDA has contacted the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the Registrar Cooperative Housing Societies, among other pertinent legal venues.
