The Lucknow Super Giants’ captain, KL Rahul, will also not be retained for IPL 2023 and will most likely feature in the mega auction for the 2025 tournament.
K Rahul is the most prolific run-getter for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the last three seasons. He made 616 runs prior to becoming the second-highest run-getter in IPL 2022.
However, an injury which was observed during the Second semester of the 2023 season restricted his participation.
In this year, however, he returned strongly to become the top scorer for LSG in the year 2024, with 520 runs. Low strike rate, not an issue you would associate with him but of late he has face criticisms in this segment as he has an IPL 2024 stand at 136.12.
This scrutiny must be of coude as the most recent two seasons have seen much higher scoring rates in the league.
After one of LSG’s worst defeats last season against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the owner Sanjeev Goenka was seen arguing with the captain on the field, KL Rahul. This visibly tired interaction which was televised created speculations concerning Rahul’s future with the particular team.
There were media reports that during a meeting with the owners of LSG, Rahul did not say if he would accept retention if offered.
The last date for ten franchises to give in their lists of retained players to the IPL is the 31st of October. In the ten teams of the mega auction before the 2025 season, teams are allowed to retain up to six players in that squad, all out of which, only five can be the internationals of the player’s teams.
