Islamabad, Oct 29: Lahore Imposes Ban on Certain Vehicles to Combat Smog. Authorities have limited the admission of some vehicles, including as tractor-trolleys and other high-emission vehicles, that do not have the appropriate tarpaulins or protective gear as part of Lahore’s continuous efforts to combat smog. By controlling vehicle norms, this restriction seeks to stop pollution at its source.
Traffic officers inspected important city entry and departure sites late into the night under the direction of Amara Athar, the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Lahore. At checkpoints such as Thokar Niaz Baig and Babu Sabu, DSP Nawan Kot Rana Younis took the initiative to impounded rather than fine smoke-emitting vehicles.
Approximately 780 cars that were found to be significant sources of pollution have been impounded by Lahore police stations this month alone. In order to minimize traffic and lower emissions during peak hours, heavy traffic vehicles are now only permitted admission into the city during certain hours.
More than 5,000 automobiles were fined heavily by traffic police last month for contributing to environmental pollution. Among these, trucks carrying sand and dust received harsh penalties, 1,402 vehicles that were running without the required fitness certifications, and 210 vehicles that were in extremely bad condition had their certifications revoked.
Amara Athar, the CTO, urged the people to support efforts to enhance the quality of the air. In order to improve enforcement against automobiles that violate environmental standards, she also emphasized the recent deployment of artificial intelligence tools to support nighttime ticketing activities.
