Islamabad, Feb 22: Murree has become a prime destination for tourists as continuous snowfall blankets the region, creating a breathtaking winter wonderland. Thousands of visitors have arrived in the picturesque hill station to experience the mesmerizing snow-covered landscapes and chilly weather, as predicted by the MET office.

Key tourist attractions such as Mall Road, Jhika Gali, Ayubia, Kashmir Point, and Ghora Gali have seen a massive influx of visitors. The intermittent snowfall has not only added to the beauty of the area but also led to a significant drop in temperature, intensifying the winter chill. To accommodate the heavy tourist flow, authorities have deployed additional personnel across Murree. Traffic police, local administration, and emergency response teams remain on high alert to ensure smooth traffic movement and public safety.

Traffic Arrangements and Advisory for Tourists

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Mughees Ahmed Hashmi has been actively overseeing traffic arrangements to prevent congestion and road mishaps. Numerous vehicles stuck on slippery roads were assisted by traffic personnel, ensuring a safe and hassle-free experience for visitors. The CTO commended the dedication of traffic wardens who performed their duties diligently despite the freezing conditions.

To enhance safety measures, a traffic advisory has been issued, urging travelers to use properly equipped vehicles with four-wheel drive and take necessary precautions before heading to Murree. Tourists have been strictly advised to avoid parking their vehicles on main roads and to refrain from forming double lines, which could lead to severe traffic disruptions.

The unexpected snowfall on Thursday caught local authorities off guard, triggering an urgent response from district administrations in Rawalpindi and Murree. Despite the government’s efforts to set up 19 facilitation centers, only Rescue 1122 personnel were actively present, while other key agencies were noticeably absent.

In response to the emergency, the Civil Defence Department deployed 10 additional volunteers. However, a major setback was the absence of crucial representatives from WAPDA, the National Highway Authority (NHA), and other relevant departments at the central control room in Jinnah Hall, Murree.

Authorities failed to take preventive steps such as spreading salt on roads to counter ice accumulation, making travel treacherous for tourists. A Special Branch police report highlighted these shortcomings and recommended urgent action to prevent further chaos.

Interestingly, the drop in temperature has led to a noticeable decline in seasonal ailments like colds, coughs, and eye infections. With the winter season in full swing, Murree remains an irresistible attraction for snow lovers, promising an unforgettable experience amid its frosty charm.
