Islamabad, Apr 14, 2025: Several European countries—including Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Greece, Norway, Switzerland, and Iceland—have updated their passport entry policies.

These changes aim to reduce waiting times at immigration and ensure travelers comply with updated requirements before arriving.

If you’re visiting these popular tourist destinations, it’s essential to understand and meet the new rules to avoid disruptions.

Key Passport Requirements for Entry

Travelers heading to the Schengen Area and other parts of Europe must follow two critical passport conditions:

  1. Recent Passport Issuance: Your passport must have been issued within the last 10 years on the date you plan to enter the country. Any passport issued before October 1, 2018, may not meet the required standards.

  1. Valid for 3+ Months: Your passport should remain valid for at least three months after your planned exit date. Failing to meet this condition could result in denied entry at the border.

These guidelines apply to all 31 countries within the Schengen Zone.

Authorities in popular tourist destinations will be strictly enforcing these regulations to maintain smoother processing at airports and land borders.

Passport Fees See a Notable Increase

Starting April 10, travelers will face increased passport fees.

The cost for renewing an adult passport online has climbed to £94.50, while children’s online applications now cost £61.50.

Fees for postal applications are even higher, reaching £107 for adults and £74 for children.

Urgent travel services have also become pricier.

The One Day Premium Service now costs £222 for adults and £189 for children.

Meanwhile, overseas applications have also seen a spike, with adult online renewals costing £108 and children’s fees at £70.

Paper applications from abroad are priced at £120.50 for adults and £82.50 for children.

These increases, pending Parliamentary approval, are intended to support administrative costs and overseas consular services, according to the Home Office.

Avoid Last-Minute Stress—Apply Early

Travelers are strongly advised to renew their passports well in advance.

Although 99.7% of standard applications are processed within three weeks, delays can occur, especially during peak seasons.

By understanding the latest regulations and preparing ahead, you can enjoy a stress-free journey to Europe—compliant, confident, and ready to explore.
