Islamabad, Aug 10: In an effort to expedite and guarantee compliance, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) government has implemented a more stringent policy regarding car registration and number plates.
These new regulations, which will directly affect city car owners, are being implemented in the lead by the Excise & Taxation (E&T) department. The enforcement action against non-standard license plates is among the biggest modifications. Automobiles with these plates will have their registration canceled, and the owners will have to pay a high re-registration charge to get their license back.
The engine capacity determines the different re-registration fees. Owners of cars with engines under 1000cc will pay Rs. 5,000, but owners of cars with engines between 1000cc and 2000cc will pay an additional Rs. 10,000 in fees. The re-registration charge is a high Rs. 20,000 for cars with engines bigger than 2000cc. Motorcycles must pay a re-registration cost of Rs. 1,000 in order to be exempted.
The E&T department has also implemented a punishment multiplier in an effort to discourage repeat offenders. The owner of a car will be fined five times the original sum if it is discovered that the new regulations have been broken more than once.
These strict steps are intended to ensure that all vehicles operating on Islamabad’s roads comply with the statutory rules and to standardize vehicle registration. Although some car owners may find the changes inconvenient, it is anticipated that they would result in a more structured and regulated city transit system.
