Islamabad, Dec 17: The Syrian Embassy in Islamabad has adopted the new rebel flag following the recent regime change in Syria, signaling a shift in allegiance to the new leadership.

The flag now flying over the embassy represents a significant change, reflecting the political upheaval and altered power dynamics within Syria. This adoption of new national symbols marks a clear departure from the Assad family’s five-decade rule and the legacy of Arab unity represented by the previous flag.

The rebel flag features green, symbolizing hope and independence; white, denoting peace and a brighter future; and black, representing the hardships endured by Syrians. The three red stars signify the ideals of the Syrian revolution. This design stands in contrast to the previous flag, which bore two green stars representing Syria’s union with Egypt under the United Arab Republic.

The regime change and the flag’s adoption have sparked celebrations among the Syrian diasporas. In cities like Berlin, Istanbul, and Athens, people gathered to wave the new flag, expressing their support for the rebels’ vision of a reformed Syria. The embassy’s decision in Islamabad highlights the country’s evolving political identity.

Meanwhile, sources in the Foreign Office reported that communication between Islamabad and Damascus has returned to normal. Updates from Damascus indicate a swift return to stability, particularly in the Syrian capital.
