Islamabad, Oct 4: NUST Confers Honorary PhD Degree on Malaysian Prime Minister. At a special convocation held at the NUST main campus the other day, the Malaysian Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, received an honorary Doctor of Philosophy degree from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST-Islamabad).
At the occasion, the honourable dignitary also delivered a keynote presentation on Allama Iqbal, exhibiting a deep understanding of Iqbal’s ideas, and its continued relevance to balanced development, inclusive growth, and individual well-being.
“I am truly grateful for the kindness and hospitality shown to me by the Pakistani government and people, and I hope that our two countries will continue to grow even closer, forging stronger ties for the future,” stated the prime minister.
“With great humility, and in the spirit of Iqbal, I accept this honor on behalf of the people of Malaysia as a symbol of the deep intellectual and cultural connection between our nations,” he stated, expressing his sincere gratitude for the doctorate degree honoris causa from NUST. He insisted that being at NUST was an immense honor and referred to the university as a shining example of excellence in teaching, research, and innovation.
Speaking to the students, he said that their enrollment at NUST is evidence of their intelligence, commitment, and enormous potential. “Your journey here will shape not only your own future but also the destiny of this nation,” he continued, echoing Iqbal’s exhortation for constant self-improvement.
The prime minister of Malaysia as well as other international and Pakistani dignitaries were cordially welcomed to NUST earlier by Lt Gen (Retd) Engr Javed Mahmood Bukhari, HI (M), Rector NUST. The Prime Minister’s outstanding accomplishments and leadership were recognized by the Rector. He also emphasized the great potential for research and academic cooperation between eminent universities in Pakistan and Malaysia, such as NUST.
Among the notable guests at the occasion were Mr. Jam Kamal Khan, the Federal Minister of Commerce; Mr. Sajid Baloch, the Secretary of State for Technology; Ms. Amna Baloch, the Foreign Secretary; and other Malaysian cabinet members. The Special Convocation was attended by a resounding number of students, senior academics, thought leaders, think tank professionals, and media representatives.
During the ceremony, it was also announced that a Pakistani university is translating Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s book “SCRIPT for a Better Malaysia,” which was initially released in Malaysia in 2022.
