Islamabad, Apr 4, 2025: ​In a move underscoring its dedication to environmental sustainability, Thatta Cement Company Limited (THCCL) has finalized and initiated a 4.8 megawatt (MW) wind energy project at its facility in Thatta, Sindh.

This development, announced on April 3, 2025, is a pivotal component of THCCL’s broader strategy to enhance its renewable energy capacity. ​

Prior to this, in May 2024, the company unveiled a comprehensive ‘green energy plan’ aimed at diminishing reliance on conventional grid electricity.

This initiative includes the installation of a 3.5 MW solar power system and the recent addition of the 4.8 MW wind power plant, collectively boosting THCCL’s renewable energy generation to 8.3 MW.

These renewable installations are projected to curtail Thatta Cement Company Limited (THCCL) dependence on grid electricity by 50%.

The integration of wind and solar energy sources aligns with Pakistan’s national objectives to augment the share of renewables in its energy mix, targeting a 20% contribution by 2025. ​

Pakistan’s dedication to renewable energy is further evidenced by significant projects like the 220 MW hybrid initiative by K-Electric.

Additionally, the World Bank’s recent commitment of $20 billion over the next decade to bolster clean energy and climate resilience in Pakistan highlights the sector’s growth potential. ​

The surge in renewable energy projects, exemplified by Thatta Cement Company Limited (THCCL) wind and solar installations, not only addresses the nation’s energy demands but also positions Pakistan as a burgeoning player in the global shift towards sustainable energy solutions.
