Islamabad, 14 Apr, 2025: Pakistan Heatwave Alert: As blistering heat continues to grip much of the nation, weather officials and medical experts are advising people to make climate-smart clothing choices in order to stay protected from the soaring temperatures forecast for the upcoming week.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a strong high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere is causing daytime temperatures to spike dramatically, with highs expected to touch 46°C to 48°C in several regions.

This intense heatwave is projected to impact southern Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan between April 13 and April 18, with Dadu expected to experience 46°C, Nawabshah at 45°C, and Hyderabad and Sukkur forecast to hit 43°C.

Meanwhile, Karachi will likely face a humid heat spell with temperatures nearing 36°C. In central Punjab, cities like Multan, D.G. Khan, and Sargodha will hover around 40°C, while Lahore could peak at 37°C.

In the northern belt, including Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, temperatures are expected to rise 4°C to 6°C above normal levels.

In view of this Pakistan Heatwave Alert, health specialists recommend light, breathable attire—especially fabrics like cotton and linen to help mitigate the risk of heatstroke and other temperature-related health problems.

For men, loose-fitting shirts in light hues such as ivory, beige, and pastel tones can help reflect sunlight and encourage airflow.

A combination of polo shirts with linen pants or lightweight chinos is suggested for comfort with a touch of style. Thick materials, such as denim, should be avoided, as they tend to retain heat and block air circulation.

Garments like flowy kurtas, palazzos, and breezy tunics made from natural fibres offer ventilation without compromising modesty.

Light scarves and chiffon dupattas can provide sun coverage without causing overheating.

Children, being more susceptible to heat, should wear breathable cotton outfits with tighter weaves to protect against UV rays.

Long-sleeved tops and loose pants offer better sun protection, while wide-brimmed hats are useful for shielding delicate areas like the face and ears.

At night, it’s ideal for children to sleep in light sleepwear under a thin cotton sheet, avoiding thick bedding during hot spells.
