Islamabad, Dec 30: The federal cabinet has made it mandatory for applicants to have resided in Pakistan for at least five years to be eligible for citizenship.

This decision was made during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where several key resolutions were approved.

The cabinet also decided to confiscate the passports of individuals caught begging abroad, imposing heavy fines on them.

Furthermore, amendments to the country’s passport and citizenship laws were approved.

According to sources from a private news channel, the requirement for a minimum five-year residency will not include time spent as a refugee or diplomat. This decision is in response to legal concerns regarding Afghan women marrying Pakistani men.
