Islamabad, Sep 6: In honor of the great sacrifices made by our armed forces, Shuhada, Ghazis, and national heroes who resisted the enemy in the 1965 Indo-Pak War with unmatched unity and tenacity, Pakistan Navy honored Defense and Martyrs Day on February 1.
A Pakistan Navy news release said that in his remarks on the occasion, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf honored the Shuhada and Ghazis who, with the help of our people, repelled the enemy’s brazen assault and thwarted its evil plans. The day honors the brave soldiers who were methodical in their preparation, fearless in their deeds, and able to instill dread in the minds of our adversaries. It also demonstrates the spirit of sacrifice and unity in the defense of our homeland.
All naval mosques held special prayers before daybreak in support of Pakistan’s sovereignty and integrity. For Shuhada in the 1965 conflict, Quran Khawanis were held. Vice Admiral Ovais Ahmed Bilgrami, the Vice Chief of Staff, visited with the families of Shuhada and placed a floral wreath at Shuhada’s monument at Naval Headquarters Islamabad. He also gave Fateha. At Field Command Headquarters, wreath-laying ceremonies and Fateha Khawani were also held at Shuhada’s memorials.
All navy units and establishments staged flag hoisting ceremonies during which commanding commanders spoke to particular groups of officers and troops, emphasizing the importance of the day. Every ship and facility was lit and ornamented in keeping with nautical customs.
