Islamabad, Nov 2: In response to allegations of corruption and irregularities,
The Pakistan Sports Board has suspended the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation effective immediately.
After the 25th PSB meeting on July 6, 2022, PSB made a decision
based on the conclusions of a delegate it had appointed in accordance with the Lahore High Court’s orders.
However, All Provincial Sports Boards and all related government bodies have also been directed
The PSB to cease addressing PWF in any capacity or cooperating with PWF in any respect.
including through cash donations, facility providing, or other sponsorship agreements.
This was the state of affairs after the suspension of leadership of PWF and its affiliates as well as.
PSB already established an interim committee to oversee the organization.
Brigadier (R) Zahid Iqbal is the chair of the recently established Interim Committee,
which also consists of Colonel (R) Dr. Hafiz Zafar Iqbal and Nuzhat Jabeen.
PSB recently intervened after the PWF was accused of irregularities,
corrupt practices, and anti-doping offenses under the leadership of Hafiz Imran Butt.
PWF is thought to be the reason Pakistan was added on WADA’s watchlist.
Weightlifting has a history of careless testing of its athletes,
which has resulted in severe punishments from the sport’s international governing body.
All of the athletes competing under the PWF banner have not yet received instructions from PSB,
But they are expected to continue working as usual.
