Islamabad, Nov 16: The Punjab government has made a significant breakthrough in combating smog through a successful cloud seeding operation using locally developed technology.
The Provincial Meteorological Department reported that the initiative resulted in artificial rainfall across Jhelum, Gujar Khan, Chakwal, and Talagang .
Conducted around 2 pm, the operation produced showers in the targeted areas within hours, sparking optimism that similar efforts could help mitigate Lahore’s severe smog problem.

The operation was a collaborative effort involving experts from Pakistan’s Strategic Plans Division (SPD), Army Aviation, PARCO, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Punjab government. This partnership underscores the region’s commitment to adopting innovative solutions for pressing environmental issues.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz hailed the initiative as a historic achievement. “Today, through your hard work, dedication, and expertise, Punjab has made history. The entire nation is proud of you,” she stated. Senior Minister Mariam Aurangzeb also celebrated the success, highlighting that unlike last year’s UAE-backed cloud seeding experiment, this milestone was accomplished through local expertise and resources.

This landmark achievement represents a proactive approach to tackling environmental challenges and serves as a model for future initiatives aimed at addressing air pollution in the region.
