Islamabad, Jan 16: In recent weeks, the number of complaints regarding the unwarranted offloading of individuals traveling abroad for employment has surged. Despite possessing valid work visas and Protector stamps, these travelers are being denied boarding at airports, creating significant challenges for both the workers and the economy.

Adnan Paracha, Vice Chairman of the Pakistan Overseas Employment Promoters Association (POEPA), expressed deep concern over this troubling trend. He revealed that young job seekers, sent abroad through legitimate contracts by Overseas Employment Promoters, are facing unexpected hurdles. These workers play a crucial role in strengthening Pakistan’s economy by contributing a staggering $33 to $34 billion annually through remittances.

Paracha explained that many of these travelers, despite complying with all legal requirements, are being offloaded without justification. The financial implications are severe, as most of the tickets purchased for their journeys are non-refundable, leading to significant monetary losses. This issue is not only affecting individual workers but also causing frustration among international employers due to delays in workforce deployment.

Highlighting the critical role of these workers, Paracha described them as a “national asset” whose contributions are vital to the country’s financial stability. He emphasized the need for immediate intervention from the government to address this issue. In a public appeal, he urged the Prime Minister and the Federal Minister of Interior to take swift action. According to him, resolving these challenges is essential to protect the rights of workers and maintain Pakistan’s reputation in the global job market.

However, The unjustified offloading of individuals with proper legal documentation not only undermines the confidence of overseas employers but also jeopardizes the livelihoods of countless families relying on these workers’ income. It is imperative for authorities to ensure fair and transparent processes at airports, safeguarding the interests of these hardworking individuals and preserving their invaluable contributions to the nation.

Although, This growing issue serves as a wake-up call for policymakers to prioritize the concerns of overseas workers. By addressing these grievances promptly, the government can reinforce its commitment to supporting one of Pakistan’s most vital economic pillars—the workforce abroad.
