Islamabad, Oct 21: Punjab Govt Implements Artificial Rain to Combat Smog Crisis in Lahore

The Punjab administration is taking aggressive steps to combat the deteriorating haze in Lahore and has finished making plans for artificial rain.

A coordinated effort comprising important departments like the Department of Environment, Army Aviation, Civil Aviation, PCSIR, and the Meteorological Department is currently ongoing, according to Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb.

The minister clarified that financial resources have already been set out for the implementation of artificial rain, which will be used as needed. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz of Punjab issued the directions that led to the decision, stressing the significance of the Meteorological Department’s assistance in the process of creating fake rain.

According to Aurangzeb, the expenses associated with each operation will range from Rs. 5 million to Rs. 7 million. She emphasized that efficient pollution control measures might reduce the need for artificial rain, and she also mentioned the ongoing crackdown on factories, cars, and other sources of pollution.

The fake rain project will be implemented in three stages installing cutting-edge cloud seeding equipment, conducting real-world testing to simulate rainfall, and doing a comprehensive climatic analysis to evaluate moisture accumulation. Reducing air pollution, enhancing public health, and boosting regional agricultural output are the objectives.
