Islamabad, Sep 24: The Punjab Police have made plans to buy cutting-edge drones in order to hunt out criminals who may be hiding in the province’s outlying areas. These drones will be able to carry and drop mortar shells in addition to being fitted with cameras for surveillance.

Police officials claim that the drones have the ability to observe and launch strikes over long distances using 60 mm mortar projectiles. The goal of this technology is to improve operations in hard-to-reach places where criminals are known to hide out.

The initiative has a budget of Rs. 35 million, which will be used to buy 25 drones to start. It has been confirmed by officials that the Federal Ministry of Interior has received a summary for approval. The tendering procedure will start as soon as the No Objection Certificate (NOC) is approved.

Drone deployment is viewed as a calculated tactic to bolster law enforcement efforts in regions where conventional police operations are difficult.
