Islamabad, Nov 18: Punjab Proposes “Mist Fans” to Combat Smog Crisis. To reduce haze, the Faisalabad Think Tank has suggested working with the business sector to put mist fans on electric polls along the Rakh Branch Canal.

The former vice president of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI), engineer Ahmad Hassan, voiced concern that smog has interfered with everyday life for a number of years during the winter months, but no concrete plan to reduce it has emerged.

According to him, the government attempted to control it by using expensive artificial rain, but this was not a long-term fix for the environmental problem. In addition to using it in the summer to cool down, he proposed a thorough business plan that could be put into action under the public-private partnership model to permanently resolve this issue.

“By using water from the canal and electricity already available to the streetlight system of the Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) in addition to its repair and maintenance, businesses and commercial houses along the canal expressway could be motivated to fund and own this project,” he stated.

He stated that this system can be gradually converted to solar energy if the police accept responsibility for its protection and cover costs in the event of theft or deliberate system wear and tear. Initially, the system could be set up and made functional in front of business establishments that are prepared to do so.

He added that by working with environmentalists and civil society, its reach may be extended to other fields. He claimed that in cooperation with the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI), environmentally friendly organizations and elements might be found and encouraged to voluntarily take part in this effort.

In order to maintain this project’s operations over the long term, he noted, a memorandum of agreement that explicitly outlines the roles of the district administration, police, FDA, and irrigation department should also be signed.
