Islamabad, Oct 15: Punjab Revises Jhelum-Lillah Road Project to Single Carriageway Amid Budget Constraints. The Punjab government is thinking of making a big shift to its plans for infrastructure development. Talks are in progress to build a single lane between Jhelum and Lillah.
According to specifics, this action is a departure from the 128-kilometer dual-carriageway project that was previously approved by the National Economic Council’s Executive Committee (Ecnec) in 2021. Deputy Commissioner Jhelum Syedah Ramallah Ali said that a revised proposal has been sent to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for official approval.
In response to inquiries over the dual-carriageway Jhelum-Lillah Road Project that has been put on hold, the deputy commissioner unveiled the revised designs during the opening of a model hamlet in Pind Dadan Khan.
The Lillah-Jhelum road’s PC-I has been changed to a single lane, she said, and the government plans to provide funding by December to begin construction. She said, “The entire project is being reviewed and is awaiting approval from the chief minister.”
The deputy commissioner went on to explain that the updated PC-I has already been sent to the chief minister’s office for review and that the Lillah-Jhelum project is a collaborative endeavor between the Punjab and federal governments.
Although she was not aware of the project’s revised cost, she acknowledged that around 25% of the PKR 16 billion that had been approved in 2021 had been used. Concerning the dual-carriageway parts that are not yet finished.
