LAHORE, JULY13: In a meeting with Dr. Umar Aftab, the founder and CEO of Pink Ribbon Pakistan, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stated that having access to real patient data on cancer patients will help create better treatment facilities. She was informed that she will be leading the Pink Ribbon campaign when it launches in October.
The chief minister looked over a plan to construct a breast cancer block at the Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital, Pakistan’s first government-run medical facility. She was told there would only be female employees in the breast cancer block.
According to Ms. Nawaz, breast cancer diagnosis would be taught to lady health visitors (LHVs). She was informed that Lady Health Visitors will be capable of diagnosing breast cancer all throughout Punjab.
The Punjab chief minister contemplated requiring mammography testing facilities for female employees. She was told that, although the average age at which a person is diagnosed with breast cancer worldwide is 55, in Pakistan it is only 35. She was also informed, according to a handout, that the Punjab Information Technology Board will be entrusted with creating an app to guarantee the availability of mammography machines.
